The owners of this Oakland Hills Mid-Century Modern home wanted to create a clean and modern outdoor space and enhance their inside-outside interaction. The existence this compact footprint included a deteriorating deck, large imposing tree which made it impossible to achieve this. Modern touches include board formed retaining walls, Corten steel planters, modern horizontal fencing, native grasses and other elements. The space was expanded to create a larger area for private and public gatherings as well as provide an palate of modern colors, textures, movement and night life.
