This front yard configuration is a challenge with it's extreme slope and street distance from the house entry. The current stair access conditions requires complete removal and reconfiguration. The new design relocates the stair access to allow the owners to take better advantage of the site lines and creates easier access. By reusing the existing retaining walls and installing new ones, horizontal areas are created to make usable flat spaces. A lower flat area is created where non existed before. In this area, new lounge/dining entertainment, recreational areas, and a garden is created. Also, paths are developed to allow the young kids to scooter, and bike in a loop. The hillside will be planted with ornamental grasses and drought tolerant flowering shrubs. A whimsical slide will be built into the hill to allow kids and adults to quickly and safely reach the front door from the upper hillside landing The overall idea is to create outdoor space where none previously existed.
